El Médano revolves around its long natural beach and the bay's famous wind — kitesurfers and windsurfers come from all over Europe. The town square, weekly market, and beachfront cafés give it a laid-back, slightly bohemian feel.
It's the closest southern town to Tenerife South airport — under 10 minutes — and buses run to Los Cristianos and Santa Cruz. A car is handy but many residents get by without one.
